How it Helps

The Quechua are a strong, hard-working people, yet the harsh environment allows little more than a subsistence level existence. Dental care, or even a pair of shoes or a warm blanket, is out of reach for many of these people. Comfort is a luxury experienced by only a few.

Hunger is a reality in the Altiplano. Children grow up with a void in their stomachs that is never quite filled. The Catholic sisters of Yanque run a "soup kitchen" from the courtyard of the church in Yanque. Since the early 80s, they have been feeding 800 people one ration of soup a day, five days a week. On Saturdays they feed 400 more, mostly children. But the hunger persists.

When asked how Quechua Benefit might help, Sr. Antonia of the Catholic sisters of Yanque "soup kitchen" said, "We could use a little more meat for the soup and some seeds for our garden." Your donation will allow Quechua Benefit to "add meat to the soup and seeds to the garden."
